Track Cycling

Durham University Cycling Club has plenty of potential to have a strong and thriving track scene. The newly opened outdoor velodrome in Middleborough – near Queen’s Campus – provides a wealth of opportunities to become involved in track cycling. It is part of an excellent sports complex which also contains a race circuit for criteriums.

Middlesbrough is easily within reach of us in Durham, with excellent rail links and in easy driving distance. We already regularly compete in circuit races on the Prissick circuit which is right next to the development (see image below), and thus it will be a natural extension of club to race on the track.

We are currently trying to get as many club members involved with track racing, organising track days for beginners and building the experience and racers necessary to become a potent force in the local track scene and at BUCS. There are track bikes for hire and excellent coaches so anyone can get involved!

Additionally, whilst our home track is in Middlesbrough, there is also another velodrome in York, less than hour away, providing ample opportunities for competition.

While we compete with some success in all other BUCS cycling events we have never had a substantial team at the track championships, however with this fantastic new facility the club will turn this around, and is ripe to develop a strong track programme.

For The First Time in 2019 We will send a full squad to BUCS Track and we are still looking for riders for the squad, so if you have track experience or think Track is for you, please send me an Email at [email protected].
